Lares Trek, Day 3: We woke up at 6:15am to our "feliz viaje" breakfast cake and set off towards the pueblo of Lares. The trek was relatively flat and easy as we passed by rustic houses and farms situated in the valley. Around 11am we arrived at Aguas Termales, or hot springs, located in Lares. There we bathed in six climatic pools that are said to have beneficial properties for the bones, muscles and skin. We were grateful for the relaxation time and beautiful vista of the surrounding mountains. There we also had lunch and said our thanks and farewell to the horsemen and boarded the bus to Ollantaytambo, where we explored the city center, artisan market, and admired the Inca ruins of Tunupa on the mountainside.
We enjoyed our last delicious dinner prepared by Roman and said our goodbyes and thanks to the exceptional cooks. Then the four of us rushed to the train station just in time to catch our ride to Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu town.
Later that evening we arrived at the Hostal Imperio Machu Picchu and eagerly took our first warm shower in weeks and then snuggled into a warm bed. Tomorrow it's off to Machu Picchu!
