Thursday, August 16th: Today we traveled by public bus with our profesora to a pueblo in the outskirts of Cusco to visit Martín, a respected curandero, or traditional folk healer who is dedicated to healing physical or spiritual illness. Martín read both of our fortunes in coca leaves which we brought to him from a store in the community. He would throw the leaves onto the table repeatedly and interpret the message according to the way in which the leaves fell. For the first time in Perú we found it somewhat difficult to understand as Martín ocassionally weaved in Quechua while speaking. While we won´t divuldge our entire fortune with you we can affirm that Katie has the spirit of a puma and Colleen the spirit of an águila, or eagle.
