2015 WPCP Spanish Trip Overview and requirements
Oaxaca is the perfect travel location for Walter Payton students who study Spanish. This region of southern Mexico exposes the layers of civilizations, cultures, and languages that comprise the vibrant Mexican culture. Students can visit ruins of the ancient civilizations, explore relics of the Spanish conquest, and, witness evidence of the interaction between time-honored traditions and our modern world.
Payton has a strong partnership with the Instituto Cultural Oaxaca, in Oaxaca. The Institute and the Spanish department will build on successful previous trips to create a program that will provide intensive language classes in the morning and cultural and historical excursions in the afternoons. These daily experiences will include learning culinary traditions through cooking classes, studying the art of weaving and mask-making with local artisans, and practicing customary dancing and music with professional musicians. Instituto Cultural Oaxaca will also provide inspected and experienced families, to offer Payton students high-quality home stays.
